How important is timing in regards to promoting your website? The truth is, timing is everything. There are many advantages in tweeting, posting and e-mailing at certain times to benefit your visibility and traffic. After creating your website you'll need to think about getting it some exposure.
Here are a few statistics that have been collected to help make sure your timing is impeccable.
Social Media
To gain maximum exposure with your Tweets and Facebook posts, you’ll need to wise up when it comes to knowing when to post. With the fast-paced nature of social media, timing is absolutely crucial.
- The best time to tweet is around 5pm as this is when retweeting is at its peak. The rate of retweets drops a little but remains high until 11pm.
- To gain a higher CTR (Click Through Rate), it is proven that Tweeting 1-4 times an hour is most effective so make sure you keep active.
- Your CTR is likely to be at its highest around midweek and at weekends. With regards to the time of day, it is at its highest at noon (lunchtime) and 6pm when people are getting home from work.
- Statistics show that most sharing activity on Facebook is done on a Saturday.
- The amount of sharing activity is at its highest around noon and just after 7pm.
- To achieve the most ‘Likes’ on Facebook, it is suggested that posting once every 2 days is most effective. This averages out at 0.5 posts a day.
E-mail Marketing
When sending out e-mails to customers and subscribers, the timing can heavily impact on your e-mail marketing. Certain times are more effective than others and you’ll want to hit your audience at the best time possible.
- The worst time to send out e-mails is between 10pm and 9am. This is the time when most people will be asleep and should be avoided.
- The second most popular time of day is 9am-10am. People will just be getting into work or waking up and are therefore likely to be receptive.
- 10 am-12pm is a busy time for consumers and people in work and therefore they will not be as responsive to e-mails in this period.
- They will remain busy between 2pm-3pm as they will be getting back to work after lunch.
- E-mails relating to finance and property are most likely to be opened between 3pm-5pm.
- People working late between 5pm and 7pm will be more inclined to open e-mails regarding holiday promotions. There is also an increase in B2B promotion e-mails being opened.
- Consumer e-mails which include clothing, sports and gym promotions are likely to be read and responded to between 7pm and 10pm in the recipients own time.
- Open rates by day are at their highest at the weekend and by hour are at their highest early in the morning.
- Click rates by day are also at their highest on a weekend and by hour are at their highest early in the mornings.
- Generally, sending 1-4 e-mails per month generates the highest amount of CTRs.
Blogging
If you have a blog, the time you update and post will greatly affect your readership. However, there are pros and cons to posting at certain times. When posting at times of high activity, you’ll certainly gain more visitors, comments and interaction but your content will be competing with lots of other content and could receive a higher bounce rate.
- Blogs are read all throughout the day although statistics show that the highest percentage of blogs are read in the morning.
- A higher percentage of men will read blogs in the evening.
- Blog views normally peak on a Monday attracting the most traffic.
- 11am is the most popular time for a blog to gain readership and views.
- On average, a blog will receive the most comments on a Saturday.
- The frequency of blog comments is at its highest at 9am.
- A blog will usually get the most inbound links on a Monday and Wednesday. The most inbound links received are at 7am.
Posting more than once a day increases the amount of inbound links and views you receive.
So, there you have it, just a few statistics to give you a clearer idea of when you should be keeping active on the internet. Let it be a rough guide in helping you to make the most of your website and to reach a greater number of people.
