How long have you been at BaseKit?
I have been with Basekit for just over 2 years now.
Could you tell us a bit about your background? How did you get into the industry?
Well it’s bizarre really – my entire working career has pretty much been spent as an account manager in facilities management so when I was approached about this job I thought, ‘no, they must have it wrong, I don’t know the first thing about software!’. I came along for the interview anyway and just fell in love with the company and the industry. Account management is a transferable skill and as long as you invest the time to understand your industry, the rest all follows! I haven’t looked back since.
We spoke to Marti recently about being a woman in tech – how has this been for you since joining the industry?
Well as I mentioned, I came from facilities management, which is also male dominated; interestingly, even though there aren’t as many women as men in this industry, I definitely feel that I’m acknowledged and heard. I think it’s amazing that more is being done to get women into tech – in a range of capacities – and I really hope this continues.
What does an average day in the office look like for you?
Every day is totally different, which makes the role so interesting! Apart from reacting to partner requests, a lot of my time is spent focusing on how we can work together to develop and grow the portfolio. This is mainly done by analysing financial and activity trends across the accounts and implementing marketing strategies.
What’s the best thing about your job?
I love working with people, and having the opportunity to work with our international customer base to grow their accounts makes the job engaging and rewarding.
What’s been your best experience since joining the company?
The international travel to go and see partners. I’m lucky enough to have had the chance to travel to Italy, France, Germany and Denmark – to name a few – to visit partners, which has been amazing. There’s nothing better than building relationships with partners and watching their accounts grow as a result and then having the opportunity to go and meet them face to face.
How do you spend your spare time?
I’m officially ‘adulting’ as we’re just in the process of buying a house, so apart from working on that, its mainly spent catching up with friends and family. I also enjoy running when I have time, although I don’t always keep up with it when I’m as busy as I have been lately!
If you weren’t an account manager, what would you be?
Oooh, interesting! Well I love to talk – so maybe a radio host. That’s literally the first time I’ve ever thought of that though!
