TeamBaseKit: How to tackle day-to-day mental health
According to MentalHealth.org.uk, one in seven people experience mental health problems in the workplace, and evidence suggests that 12.7% of all sick days can be attributed to mental health conditions.
Here at BaseKit, our people are our top priority. We want to provide the right foundations for our team to do the best work of their lives, grow their careers and strike the right work life balance. That means being family-oriented and flexible whenever needed.
All of these things are in place to ensure our team experiences the best mental wellbeing possible.
Back in October, for Mental Health Day 2022, we asked members of our team three questions on how they deal with their mental health on a day-to-day basis. Check out the thoughts, advice and tips from the team, which we hope could help you.
Have you made any changes to your day-to-day life to help your own mental health?
“I always ensure that I get out of the house at some point during the day and make sure I find time to spend on a mindfulness app.”
“I find keeping a routine really helps my mental health; making sure I have a structure throughout my day with the same wake up time, a consistent bedtime, and always making sure I move myself away from the laptop if I am working from home”
“I always use the gym or some kind of sport to keep my mental health manageable – it puts me into a neutral zone where I can’t think of anything else other than what is in front of me”
Do you have any advice from your own experiences, which could help others that are struggling?
“Be kind to yourself. Some days will be better than others, and on the days you don’t feel so good, try and focus on one thing at a time and just do what you can.”
“Speak out and ask for help if you are struggling”
Are there any tips you can share for staying mentally healthy whilst working from home?
“Set boundaries – keep home and work life separate. I found that ensuring I do not look at my emails, laptop or messages after work time helps switch off and makes you ‘leave’ work at the end of the day.”
“Make sure you take breaks like you would if you were in the office, getting fresh air or some exercise really helps me shake off something negative and wakes me up.”
Here at BaseKit we want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to keep their mental health on track, so with regular Spill sessions as well as employees sharing their own experiences through monthly “All hands” meetings, we actively encourage open conversations to help support each other and keep our mental health well.
