BaseKit partners with Groundbreaker Talents to support tech careers for women in Africa

BaseKit is excited to announce we have partnered with Groundbreaker Talents to support women in financially constrained communities in Africa with the opportunity to start a career in tech.
Groundbreaker Talents is a full-time residential program in software engineering targeting young women facing social and economic exclusion in Sub-Saharan Africa. Their objective is to support women in exploring their full potential and accessing a brighter future in the digital era.
According to sources the current status quo of diversity in the tech industry shows:
- 33% of the tech related workforce are women (Source: Deloitte)
- 50% of women who take a tech role, drop it by the age of 35 (Source: Accenture)
- Only 3% of women in the tech industry identify as black (Source: NCWIT)
Financial constraint deprives people of one thing: access to opportunities. At the same time, the tech industry urgently needs a more diverse talent pipeline. Therefore, the residential approach at the Groundbreaker campus creates an environment that ensures full concentration and focus, creating a steep learning curve in personal and technical growth. Within 12 months, these young women prepare to enter the tech industry.
BaseKit has gifted lifetime subscriptions to our website, e-commerce, and bookings software for every woman participating in the Groundbreaker Talents program. This allows them to utilise our software to learn how to create a stunning website during their program and later showcase an online portfolio of their skills to kickstart a successful career in the tech industry.
Leoni Rossberg, Co-founder and Managing Director of Groundbreaker said, “From classroom to career, BaseKit supports our Talents with building a strong online presence to launch successful careers. We’re super excited about this collaboration!”
For the Talents, the training means a sustainable way out of poverty and into a well-paid job in the national or international tech market. At the same time, implementing a progressive form of corporate engagement and involving employees through the mentorship program fosters a diverse talent pipeline, promotes openness within the participant companies’ culture, and creates higher satisfaction among their employees.
Simon Best, BaseKit CEO said, “As part of our commitment to positive impact, we actively seek out opportunities to promote greater tech inclusivity worldwide with our software. We are thrilled to be backing the Groundbreaker Talents program and cannot wait to witness the doors it will open for these women as they navigate their way into the tech sector.”
