Raising the bar with B Corp Standards at BaseKit

At BaseKit, becoming a B Corp was never about a badge. It was about building accountability into everything we do. With the B Corp standards recently relaunched, we sat down with our HR Director, Wendy Weston, to talk about what the changes mean for our people, culture and broader impact as a tech company.
The new B Corp standards put even greater emphasis on accountability and transparency. From an HR perspective, how will these changes influence the way we support our people internally?
Wendy: The new standards align beautifully with our values at BaseKit. They give us a stronger framework to support our people in a way that’s meaningful and measurable.
Internally, this means continuing to build a culture where open communication, trust and fairness are the norm, but with clearer structures to ensure consistency. We’ll be looking even more closely at how we gather feedback, how we share decisions that affect the team and how we hold ourselves accountable for creating a workplace where everyone feels seen, heard and valued.
It also pushes us to be more intentional in documenting our policies, measuring our impact and embedding equity and inclusion across all our people’s practices. Ultimately, it’s about raising the bar so that, as we grow, we’re not just good for business but also great for our people.
One of BaseKit’s core values is ‘People before pixels.’ Thinking about the triple bottom line, how do the new standards encourage us to balance the well-being of employees with the needs of the planet and profit?
Wendy: People before pixels has always been at the heart of how we work, and the new B Corp standards strengthen that commitment.
When we think about the triple bottom line – people, planet, and profit – the new standards encourage us to see them as interconnected rather than competing. Supporting our team’s wellbeing creates a healthier, more engaged business. That in turn makes us stronger financially and better placed to act responsibly toward the planet.
It’s not just about offering benefits. It’s about embedding care, fairness and support into our day-to-day culture while making long-term sustainable decisions. That holistic balance is something we’re proud of and excited to build on.
What new opportunities or challenges do you see in embedding the new B Corp requirements into our internal processes?
Wendy: I see a lot of opportunities. The biggest one is the chance to take a fresh look at how we work, ensuring our processes are not only aligned with our values but also more clearly documented, inclusive, and transparent. It gives us space to refine what we’re already doing well and identify areas where we can improve even further, especially in terms of accountability, equity, and sustainability.
Of course, change always comes with challenges. Some updates may require us to rethink existing practices or introduce new ones, and that takes time, care and clear communication. But those challenges are healthy. They give us the chance to collaborate, experiment and strengthen our culture in ways that will last.
As a B2B2C SaaS company, we impact both our clients and their end users. How do the new standards shape the way we think about equity, inclusion and ethical responsibility across that broader ecosystem?
Wendy: We’re in a unique position. Our work doesn’t just affect our team and our direct partners, but also the end users who interact with our products through them. The new standards encourage us to take greater responsibility for that broader impact.
That means asking more profound questions: Just how accessible and inclusive are our tools? Are we supporting partners to prioritise equity and fairness? Are we thinking about the ripple effects of our product decisions in the broader digital ecosystem?
The standards encourage us to integrate inclusivity and ethics into product design, partnerships, and communication. It’s an exciting opportunity to champion values we care deeply about and to help shape a digital landscape that’s fair, responsible and human-centred.
Looking ahead, how do the new B Corp standards influence not only our internal culture but also the way we position ourselves as a purpose-driven employer in the UK tech space?
Wendy: I see the new standards as both a mirror and a compass for us at BaseKit. They help us reflect on who we are now while guiding us toward who we want to become.
Internally, they provide us with the tools to strengthen a culture that already prioritises people, purpose, and positive impact, ensuring those values aren’t just written in policies but lived in everyday decisions and interactions.
Externally, they help us show up as a purpose-driven UK tech employer with credibility. It’s one thing to say we’re committed to doing the right thing; it’s another to measure it and be held accountable in a competitive tech space where culture and values matter to our talent, partners and customers, and where authenticity really stands out.
Ultimately, I hope the new standards further inspire us and the wider industry to continue raising the bar, proving that you can build innovative technology, while also driving fair, inclusive and positive change for people and the planet too.
