At BaseKit we are continually testing our products and analysing data and research to ensure we provide the most simple and intuitive user experience we can on our BaseKit Platform.
At the start of this year, we conducted a usability study to gain more insight specifically about our BaseKit Store onboarding experience amongst end users.
The results of the study showed that there were improvements that could be made to enhance the store onboarding process, in particular by simplifying the navigation and continuity flow of the experience.
One of the biggest findings was that customers weren’t navigating the 5 steps of our store setup process in the right order. They were jumping to different stages which was creating confusion, and resulting in one of the biggest causes of incomplete store set ups.
In April we released these BaseKit Store onboarding improvements to all our end users across all our partners.
In the first month between April and May, we were excited to see the total number of end users publishing a store to their website, jumping up by 55%.
What’s more, we were delighted to see that the jump didn’t subside. Store activations have continued at the higher rate throughout the second half of 2023.
Comparing the 6 months before the new store onboarding experience was released, to the 6 months afterwards, the volume of store activations – when someone publishes a store to sell products from their website – increased by 75%.
VP of Product, Gordon Plant said, “There’s always something new to learn from talking to customers and learning about their pain points. Ongoing research like this is core to our mission to bring tech democracy to the widest possible audience. Onboarding is a critical piece of the process to ensure customers have a great experience right from their start of the ecommerce journey. We’re always making improvements and in this case we’ve got a really great result that has had a lasting impact on store activation.”
We’re continually monitoring our end user experience across our products and have many more design updates planned for the New Year to keep the BaseKit Platform as seamless as it can be, so watch this space.
