Meet Tennille, Global Key Account Manager

One of our values here at BaseKit is indispensable partnership. Our success depends on the success of our partners and their customers, so we give them our time and attention generously. We share our ideas, insight, and expertise unselfishly and collaboratively to inspire and succeed in partnership.

We currently work with 100+ partners around the world and their first point of contact when they have a query about our digital products is usually their Account Manager.

We caught up with Tennille, our Global Key Account Manager, to find out more about how it feels working the other side of the world from her colleagues, what led her to BaseKit and how she likes to spend her time outside of work.

How have you been made to feel included as part of the BaseKit team while working on the other side of the world?

BaseKit have always made a conscious effort to focus on inclusion regardless of where in the world you might reside. For example when we have monthly company meetings and lunch is provided, my doorbell rings and it’s an Uber eats delivery from BaseKit. It’s small gestures such as these that make me feel valued and included and a part of the overall team, even if I am 9,461 miles away!

We also have a fabulous “Wellness Warrior” champion in the company, who facilitates amazing webinars and workshops around physical, mental and emotional health for all employees within BaseKit. These kind of benefits lends itself to ensure wherever you are in the world you have the opportunity to participate.

I am also really lucky enough to have a super engaged manager, who schedules regular check-ins to ensure I am feeling supported and heard.

What are some of the biggest challenges working from Australia?

I’d have to say the main challenge for me is the occasional feeling of isolation. This is undoubtedly, due to the limited in-person interaction with my work colleagues. I’m definitely a social person and really enjoy being in the physical company of other people. I miss the hallway or kitchen banter you have when in an office environment- not to mention the super fun work socials and company events BaseKit organize.

What are some of the biggest benefits of working from Australia?

For me the biggest benefit is – I have most of my “day time” free! Due to the nature of time zones, I work from late afternoon into the early hours of the morning. It means I can attend all my kids school events, spend time during the day exercising or having a swim at my local beach – it’s great work life balance in that respect.

What advice would you give someone looking to work in tech?

DO IT! The tech world is fast-paced, energetic and such an exciting industry to be involved in. It’s ever changing and evolving, which creates diversity and keeps things super interesting. My overall experience of the tech industry is that most companies really value culture, which makes for a fun happy environment to be a part of.

Tell us a little bit about your experience?

I ended up in IT by accident. It was never an industry I’d considered for myself as a school leaver. Way back in 2002 I worked as a receptionist for a Systems Integrator, who predominately sold voice (VoIP) solutions to medium/large enterprises across Australia.

After just 9-mths in that role, I was fortunate enough that the Sales Director of that company approached me and offered the role of Sales Support for his national sales team – I jumped at the opportunity. It was during those days of supporting the sales guys I found my love of working with partners and customers. It felt really rewarding to gain insight into the world of a variety of customers across all kinds of industries and learn about the challenges they were experiencing and of course how the IT solutions we sold could solve many of those problems.

From then on I’ve not looked back. My experience has been varied and that’s what keeps me engaged and content to remain in the world of IT.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Hanging at the beach. The sun, sand and sea calms my soul, it makes me feel alive. I also love to travel, and experience new cultures and meet new people.
